How To Choose Your Perfect Diamond

How to Choose the Perfect Diamond?

Since shopping for a diamond can seem confusing, DiamondJools will help you find the diamond that is perfect for you or for the one that you love. The way the diamond will look on your hand, ears, neckline, or wrist is determined by important considerations such as the diamond's shape and setting. In order to find that perfect diamond and give you many years of owner satisfaction, you must understand the four characteristics common to all diamonds.

There are four characteristics (or attributes) used to determine the value of DiamondJools diamond. They are as follows:

  • Carat – Carat weight is what determines the mass of a diamond. 200 milligrams make a carat, while for diamonds with a mass under one carat, the point unit, which corresponds to one one-hundredth of a carat (2 mg or 0.01 carat), is more commonly used. Carat weight is what determines the price per carat; because larger diamonds are less common, but more desirable and used as gemstones, the price increases correspondingly.

  • Clarity – Commonly known as inclusions or internal defects found in any diamonds are measured by clarity. Minute crack which have a whitish or cloudy look or crystals of a foreign material or even another diamond crystal are all called inclusions. Factors like size, number, color, comparative location, orientation, and visibility of the inclusions can all impact clarity.

  • Color – A perfectly transparent diamond, exhibiting no hues or colors to detract from its appearance is free of structural and chemical imperfections. Virtually every stone has minor imperfections that, in a way or another, influence a diamond’s value. A diamond with a striking blue or pink hue will be valued much higher than a white diamond with a yellowish hue.

  • Cut – After being unearthed in imperfect conditions, diamonds must be shaped and polished to become truly gem-worthy. The cut is determined by the handiwork of an accomplished craftsman coupled with angles in which the diamond is cut. Developed nearly a century ago, a precise mathematical equation determines the cut and must not be confused with the shape.

Although most people find it impossible to tell the difference from one color grade to another with the naked eye, price differences can be significant. Diamonds is the D-F range are always in demand by purists but you can find tremendous value and a “colorless” look even by selecting diamonds in the G-I range. Consumers who  are buying their diamond  on a budget want to maximize the size of their stone but and might find this particularly important. Nearly colorless and most affordable, “J” grade diamonds can be the right choice in this case. If you want to buy a higher color stone without paying a premium price, a diamond with a medium or strong fluorescence is something you might want to consider choosing because these diamonds are slightly discounted in price.

As a diamond shopper, you can count on DiamondJools  to help you find the right wedding and anniversary diamond or designer jewelry diamond that is right for you.
